The US Pharmacopeial (USP) Convention, a non-profit food and drug standards-setting organization, formed cooperative agreements with three Chinese drug control agencies last week, according to a June 19 report from PRNewswire Asia. The Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), signed with the Guangzhou Municipal Institute of Drug Control, the Beijing Institute of Drug Control, and the Zhejiang Institute for Food and Drug Control, are aimed at strengthening the relationship of the agencies and the USP through scientist exchange programs, work related to joint testing and standards, and other initiatives to improve drug quality. The USP also agreed to jointly develop standards with the Chinese Pharmacopeia Commission (ChP) for active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) identified as being particularly important for the safety of drugs by the US Food and Drug Administration and China\'s State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA). The cooperation is part of a 2008 agreement between the two agencies. |
