New drug standards for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) will become effective July 1, 2010, said Wei Zhang, director of the Drug Registration Department of State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) September 8, according to Caixun.com. In 2009, the SFDA will focus on raising standards for drugs on the essential drug list, TCM injections with high adverse drug reaction (ADR) risk, and ethnic drugs. The government plans to allocate RMB 21 million for raising standards for TCM drugs. According to Zhang, a number of TCM injections will be eliminated after standards are raised; however, the exact number or date of termination has yet to be determined. |
