French pharma giant Sanofi-Aventis has launched its first regional research and development centre in Shanghai in China.
\"The Asian Pacific R&D center is expected to accelerate the development of therapies and health solutions for the mass population in the region,\" said Sanofi\'s vice president of research and development Marc Cluzel.
This will be Sanofi\'s third R&D center in Asia- the other two being in in India and South Korea.
Sanofi is betting big on emerging markets—India, China—to prop up sales and profits and starting R&D centers is part of that initiative.
\"We hope to become the first multinational drug company that completes truly home-grown research activities and will cooperate with local partners,\" said Thomas Kelly, vice president of Sanofi-aventis\' China operations. |
