The Supreme Peoples Court of China has rejected Pfizers appeal to turn over a previous ruling regarding Pfizer s brand name rights to its erectile dysfunction (ED) drug Viagra, according to www.pharmtec.org.cn. This rejection marks the end of an 11-year conflict over the brand name. The Beijing Municipal Higher People\'s Court ruled in April 2008 that Pfizer no longer had rights to the brand name, WeiGe, for Viagra. In 2006, Pfizer sued Guangzhou Welman Pharmaceutical and two other companies for trademark infringement for selling similar ED drugs with the Chinese characters WeiGe. The Chinese characters for WeiGe translate to Great Brother. |
