Beijing establishes medical dispute resolution committee

Beijing will establish a health industry coordination committee to resolve medical disputes between doctors and patients. Additionally, hospitals that have been involved in too many disputes which have ended poorly will be penalized, according to shihua.com.cn March 24. The commission will be responsible for proposing health industry regulations or polices to local government, provide opinions and suggestions to local health agencies, coordinate medical disputes, and implement related policies in medical institutes. According to the report, there are on average about 22 medical disputes per hospital every year, and each medical dispute costs hospitals an estimated RMB 108,100. In the last three years, 502 cases of patients physically assaulting medical employees were reported. |
