China's drug watchdog sends supervisors to blood, vaccine pharmaceutical producers

China's drug watchdog has sent supervisors to firms producing blood-based drugs and vaccines across China to crack down on the production of fake drugs. More than 80 supervisors from the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) had been sent to 33 blood-based drug producers and 31 vaccine producers in 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities by the end of March....   more»

US-based Agilent Technologies plans to more than double its R&D workforce in China

US-based Agilent Technologies, the world's largest maker of scientific-testing gear, plans to more than double its research and development (R&D) workforce in China and have 1,000 R&D engineers here. Agilent now employs 1,300 people in China, including 400 R&D engineers. "China is now our second-largest and fastest-growing market in the world," Sullivan said. Vasostatin-Apo2L is a recombinant fusion protein with the potential to inhibit tumor growth. The treatment may integrate the function of an extracted fragment of Vasostatin, an inhibitor of angiogenesis and tumor growth with similar results of Rh-Apo2L, the Company's existing anti-cancer treatment currently in Phase II trials, which induces the apoptosis (cellular death) of cancer cells.
